Frenchie Ear Care: Keeping Those Bat Ears Healthy
French Bulldogs’ upright ears are adorable but prone to issues. This quick tip sheet gives you everything you need to keep your Frenchie's ears clean, healthy, and infection-free.
Why Ear Cleaning Matters
French Bulldogs are prone to ear infections due to trapped dirt, moisture, and yeast. Dogs who:
Have a history of yeast infections
Produce extra wax or oil
Spend a lot of time outdoors
may need ear cleaning up to twice a week. Indoor dogs with low buildup may only need cleaning every 1–2 weeks.
Step-by-Step Cleaning Routine
Inspect the Ears
Look for wax, bad odor, redness, or irritation.
Gather Supplies
Dog-safe ear cleaner (never alcohol or peroxide)
Cotton balls or gauze
Treats
Apply and Massage
Lift the ear flap, apply cleaner, and massage the base of the ear for 20–30 seconds.
Let Them Shake
Allow your dog to shake their head to help bring debris up.
Wipe Away Debris
Gently wipe the outer ear with a cotton ball or gauze pad. Never use Q-tips deep in the ear.
Reward
End with a treat, snuggle, or playtime to create positive associations.
